2015 – 2016 Grassroots Membership Report: Veterans Action Network
ARLINGTON, VA– In less than three years, VAN has shown exponential growth. We’ve proven the ability to cultivate and activate a nation-wide army of supporters. VAN’s tremendous growth in 2015 is a credit to its dedication to carrying out its mission of engaging veterans and their civilian supporters to raise awareness and involvement in political and policy issues relating to our nation’s veterans.
Two years after the Veterans Action Network was founded, our army of grassroots supporters increased from 4,754 members in 2014 to well over 17,000 by the end of the 2015, an increase of nearly 75%, in just one year!
This tremendous increase in VAN’s army of grassroots supporters is a credit to the tireless groundwork of our network of veteran activists. Traveling from town-to-town across the country, these veterans visited dozens of American Legion and VFW posts, raising awareness about the critical need for all veterans to get involved in the political process. At these stops, VAN activists registered hundreds of veterans to vote and recruited many of them to become VAN activists themselves.
Additionally, Veterans Action Network undertook an important initiative to honor three veterans in particular. It came to VAN’s attention in the spring of 2015 that three deceased military veterans from northern Wisconsin, men without families to pay for funeral expenses, were to be buried without headstones as they had no families to pay for funeral expenses. VAN found this to be unacceptable and made it its mission to fund headstones and proper burials for these American heroes. Our supporters responded generously and thus VAN was able to provide these veterans with the proper respect they deserved, staying true to the military spirit of leaving no man behind.
2015 was a turning point in VAN’s growth, and as a result, the organization was able to take direct action to mobilize veterans across the country. We encourage all who revere America’s Veterans to join the Veterans Action Network today and join our ranks in the fight for Veterans’ rights.
